My Life As A Fashionista In A Small Southern Town
By Carol Itoh
I live in a small town just outside of Nashville, TN with my husband, two dogs, and three cats. I have traveled the world and seen many things. Along the way I have laughed, loved and partied my way through it all. Upon finally settling down in one place we bought a house in a town so small it has only one red light, one store, one gas station, and seven churches! Jeez, makes you wonder what the folks get up to on a Saturday night that so much religion is needed on Sunday morning! This community is a bit rural to say the least. It is no exception to the rule to see women at Wal-mart, the only large shopping experience in the neighboring city but that's a whole 'nuther story, grazing the aisles in tights knit pants and t-shirts, way past the weight limit intended for the garment. Many a time I have been in line behind a poor dear thing, missing a tooth or two, reeking of cigarette smoke, seeing these straining seams and preying to God that they hold out until I can get out of the store before they give way. The horror would be more than I could bear. I must hand it to those seamstresses in China and India, they really must know their stuff, or use fishing line instead of thread. I am amazed sometimes to see just how those pants are holding all they are forced to hold in. And all for $12.95. Kudos Ladies. The only fine dining in my town is Sonic, Subway, and Domino's Pizza! Yummo! Again one must venture out to the Big Cityfor any better fare. Right after my husband and I first moved out here someone told us there was a chinese buffet in the town over from us. So we eagerly went searching for his favorite food. When we arrived we found a place that had cleanliness issues and food so bad we tried one plate and took a pass, paid the bill, left and headed straight for the nearest McDonalds. What does that tell you about the food? Sadly the shopping availability is as limited as the restaurants. So I have to plan my exertions to Nashville, Atlanta, Louisville and other drivable places with my friends. We make a day or a weekend of it. Fun Fun Times. I really have to run for now, but I will continue our little chat about the Life of a Diva out on the sticks! Somewhere far far away I can hear Lisa Douglas from Green Acres weeping softly for me. TA!

Contributor's Note
After spending my entire life dedicated to style and fashion I find myself living in a small southern town where Wal-mart is considered all things haute couture!
